Great question from Sheila J. about what Emini data to use – day session only (@ES.D) or day and night session data (@ES).
“Hi Barry, Thanks for such great indicators! I have a few set-ups that I trade each day, and am now making a good living at it.
I use both the @ES & @ES.d charts each day. They occasionally give different signals, and I’m not sure exactly why.
I tend to use the @ES on very volatile days, and the @ES.d on days where the volatility is low; but they are both side-by-side which allows me to see both at the same time. Thanks.” Sheila J.
My suggestion would be to always use day and night session data (@ES):
- Allows the indicators to re-calibrate before the Open
- Important support/resistance levels may print before the Open, and
- Pre-Open trades, possibly after data releases, may present themselves
Lastly, the beauty of using tick charts is this after hours data is nicely compressed and generates clean signals. Whereas, a 5-minute chart, for example, would stretch on forever and signals would be choppier.
